Malibu Moon Broman Homebred Runs to Money in Rockville Center

Manipulated, part of an even-money entry of Chester and Mary Browman homebred firsters along with Spin Cycle (Hard Spun), bided his time well out of it early behind splits of :22.80 and :47.01. Coming alive on the turn, he swept into contention in upper stretch and continued to gobble up ground down the center of the track until he was well clear at the wire. “We had a little trouble when we broke,” noted winning pilot Luis Saez. “First, a horse came in and another one came out. I was trying to be patient and get a better position so I put him in the clear. Coming at the half-mile pole, I knew I had a lot of horse and at the three-eighths, I asked him a little and he just took off. He won easy.” Added conditioner Jimmy Jerkens, “It’s not often you run in a stakes with a first-time starter, but there were a few of us in the same boat. He’d been training well in the morning, and there was a lot of money hanging out there, so why not take a shot? He blew out good the other morning and we thought if he cooled out well, we’d go, and it worked out.” The Bromans purchased Silver Knockers for $320,000 carrying her first foal–near $187,000 earner Knockher Off (Unbridled’s Song)–at the 2009 Keeneland November sale. This is her second foal to race. She produced a Bernardini filly in 2014 and a colt by Desert Party earlier this season.
